Ingrid Bergman was a Swedish actress who starred in a variety of European and American films and plays. With a career spanning five decades, she is often regarded as one of the most influential screen figures in cinematic history.

Her film work included such classics as Casablanca, For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Bells of St. Mary, Joan of Arc, Gaslight, Spellbound, Notorious and Anastasia.

She was beautiful and graceful, epitomizing the ideals of perfect womanhood.

Ingrid Bergman was more than this. She lifted her acting to a new level by being able to change her emotions instantly and seamlessly. 

She made a nuanced performance impactful:

"Even a moment of reticence, a little glance, or even an eye movement can alter the film's direction and provide her film and character with suspense, ambiguity and mysteriousness, which are rooted in her singular characteristics."              

"She doesn't simply gaze at his eyes, she peers into the eyes, searching for meaning and clues, and when she is in a close two-shot with an actor, watch the way her own eyes reflect the most minute changes in his expression."

Ingrid always lived her life her way and it was remarked:

"She showed that women are independent, that women want to tell their own story, want to take initiative, but sometimes, they can't because sometimes, our social culture doesn't allow women to break away from certain rules."

Sadly, she died from breast cancer on her sixty seventh birthday.
