Naomi Judd, born Diana Ellen Judd, was a successful American country singer. She changed her first name to Naomi, believing it reflected her spirituality and true heritage. She decided to pay homage to the Biblical figure Naomi, finding resonance in her story of moving to another land, and eventually being left without a husband, raising two daughters on her own.
Her journey through life was tumultuous, beginning with a pregnancy, abandonment by the father, a quick marriage to a willing man, and a divorce. She needed a way to support herself and her two daughters, Wynona and Ashley, and initially decided on nursing. However, her daughter Wynona changed all that as the mother and daughter teamed up as the singing duo The Judds. They were very successful, winning five Grammy Awards.
The team broke up when Naomi Judd was diagnosed with hepatitis C. Recovering from this illness was long and drawn out. Subsequently she tried acting, doing a talk show, and writing self-help books.
Throughout her life she struggled with depression accompanied by anxiety, panic attacks, and suicidal thoughts. She finally lost the battle to these negative forces by taking her own life at the age of 76.
Naomi Judd is now In Heaven with the Stars forever.
