Alan Thicke was a Canadian actor, songwriter, and a host of game and talk shows.
He was best known for playing Dr. Jason Seaver on the 1980s sitcom Growing Pains. He played a psychiatrist and father on this family show, and he became a role model for “America’s Modern Dad.” The show was a success and played from 1985 to 1992.
He reprised his role in two reunion TV movies, The Growing Pains Movie (2000) and Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers (2004).
Alan Thicke also had a successful career as a TV theme-song composer, often collaborating with his first wife Gloria Loring on these projects, which included the themes to the popular sitcoms Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life.
He also wrote a number of TV game show themes, including The Wizard of Odds (for which he also sang the vocal introduction), The Joker's Wild, Celebrity Sweepstakes, The Diamond Head Game, and Animal Crack-Ups (which he co-wrote).
Alan Thicke was a well-rounded performer, exploring many different elements of the entertainment industry, including hosting both daytime and night-time talk shows; however, none of these forays resulted in long-term success. He also produced a variety of television specials, hosted beauty pageants, and became a spokes-person for several products.
Alan Thicke, a prolific entertainer has died but he will never be forgotten. He is now forever “In Heaven with the Stars.”
